Under 2% in Johor administered second booster

JOHOR BARU: Since the second booster shot was made available, only 1.8% of the people who are eligible in Johor have taken their vaccines.

State health director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu said Johor still had enough vaccine for the second Covid-19 booster shot as the jab was given voluntarily.

“As of Sunday, a total of 51,348 individuals aged 18 and above have received their second booster, out of the 2,734,400 eligible second booster shot recipients.

“The second booster dose is given voluntarily as part of our effort to protect ourselves from any adverse risk from Covid-19,” he said.

Those who wish to take the jab could book an appointment through their MySejahtera app, he said, adding that the vaccines should be available at the nearest health clinic.

“The second booster dose is given voluntarily as part of efforts to protect us from any adverse risk from Covid-19,” he said when contacted.

“It was then extended to those living at long-term healthcare facilities, high-risk individuals aged 18 to 59 years old, and also Covid-19 frontliners on July 18 this year,” he said.

Individuals aged 50 to 59 years old who were without any comorbidities were also allowed to take the second Covid-19 booster shot, he said.

“They can take their second booster at least six months after their first booster and after a consultation with any registered medical practitioner,” said Dr Aman.

On July 19, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced in Parliament that Putrajaya was allowing second booster shots for those aged 50-59 years without any comorbidities.

According to Khairy, this was one of the recommendations made by the Health Ministry’s technical working committee.
