KOTA KINABALU: A couple had a scare when their toddler son accidentally locked himself inside the car with the keys in it on Sunday (Sept 11) afternoon.
Fire Station Chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said the couple had just arrived home at the University Apartment near here, and were carrying their grocery bags out of the car prior to the incident.
She said they had left the car keys with the child, a 16-month-old toddler.
“However, the child accidentally pressed the key alarm button at the same time his father closed the doors,” she said.
Agustavia said the car had an auto central lock system, and that was why it automatically locked all doors when closed.
She said the parents called for help immediately after that.
“We received a call about this case at around 1pm and sent a team to help,” she said.
Agustavia said firemen used special tools to pry open the door and the toddler was rescued.
She said the toddler was locked for about 15 minutes in the car before he was rescued.
“Our operations ended at around 1.42pm, after making sure that all was safe and good to go,” she said.
No one was hurt in the incident.
