Croc drags man off raft in Sandakan, search and rescue ongoing


KOTA KINABALU: A man was attacked by a crocodile while crossing a river in the Sandakan district on Friday (Sept 9) night.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said according to a witness, the victim was trying to cross the river using a bamboo raft prior to the incident.

The incident was believed to have occurred late in the evening at a river near Taman Kenari, Batu 7, Sandakan.

"The witness said that the crocodile had attacked and dragged the victim, 50s, underwater," Misran said in a statement.

He said a call was made to the fire station at 8.57pm.

"A search was mounted for the victim but operations had to be called off for the night at 10.28pm," he said.

Search operations continued 6am, Saturday (Sept 10).
