KOTA KINABALU: With dengue cases in Sandakan getting worse by the day, the public has been urged to cooperate with the authorities to stop the number from increasing.
Sandakan health officer Dr Johari Awang Besar said the district recorded its third death last week involving a child.
He said from the total of 3,546 cases statewide on Sept 9, Sandakan was the second worst hit district with 823 cases while Kota Kinabalu was the worst at 939 cases.
“The main contributors to these cases included the Batu 7 area which recorded about 40% of the total numbers in the district.
“There are three localities identified in the area and they are Kg Tinusa 2 Darat, Kg Tinusa 2 Laut and Taman Indah Jaya Phase 1,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 8).
Dr Johari added that apart from dengue, other diseases were also getting out of hand.
“Let us all work harder to fight dengue. Destroy the breeding grounds of the Aedes mosquitoes.
“Those who are unwell, please seek immediate medical attention.
“People should start to care more about themselves and their loved ones by working together to fight dengue,” he said.
Other districts with a high number of dengue cases are Tawau with 330 cases, Lahad Datu (262), Putatan (242), Semporna (221), Penampang (153) and Papar (142).
