KUALA LUMPUR: Three members of a robbery gang were arrested in Kepong and Jalan Klang Lama here, with two pistols and ammunition seized.

City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said a police patrol team detained two suspects, aged 42 and 43, at about 8.55pm in Bandar Manjalara on Sunday.

“While inspecting the vehicle, police found a semi-auto pistol with four 9mm bullets, as well as a revolver with six .38 bullets.

“We also seized 18 other bullets from the two suspects,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Comm Azmi said investigations showed both suspects were getting ready to rob a nearby goldsmith when they were arrested.

“Further investigation led police to a 47-year-old man at a house in Jalan Klang Lama at about 1.15am yesterday.

“We believe he is a gang leader,” he said.

Several items were also seized in the premises including RM129,300 in cash and 39 packets of jewellery worth RM175,000.

“The mastermind has five previous cases on his criminal record.

“All three suspects have been remanded for one week to assist in investigations,” he said.

Comm Azmi said police were still investigating how long the gang had been operating and how they got hold of the firearms.

“We will make more arrests if there are remnants of the gang.

“We notice that there is an increase in crimes involving firearms,” he said.

He urged those with information on any criminal activity to contact the city police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station.
