Phase one of project 86% completed

KUCHING: Phase One of the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak is now 86% completed, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said several more sections of the highway were expected to be opened this year while three other sections in Sarikei, Bukit Begunan and Lambir were expected to be completed by next year.

“The three sections are facing various challenges, including site that needs to be re-examined.

“There are even some that require a review of the design due to the unsuitable terrain conditions,” he said here on Saturday night, Bernama reported.

The RM16.12bil Pan Borneo Highway Phase One involves building a 786km stretch from Telok Melano in Sematan to Miri.

The Finance Ministry is finalising the procurement aspect for the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road Phase 2 Project and the Trans Borneo Highway Project with an allocation of RM12bil for both projects.
