ALOR SETAR: PAS has set its sights on contesting at least 80 parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election (GE15), with the hope of winning half of them, says its elections director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
He added this would be a better strategy than during GE14, when the party contested 155 parliamentary seats but won only 18.
“This (focus) will help us maximise our resources, especially the efficient use of finances, with a winning chance in 40 seats.
“Our 30-year plan is to have a PAS prime minister in 2050,” he said in his winding-up speech at the party’s 68th muktamar here yesterday.
The party has three ministers and eight deputy ministers in the Federal Government now.
Muhammad Sanusi said rather than spending on contesting seats in GE15, he said expenditures could be put to better use in buying new media equipment for members.
“We want to equip all members and branches with cameras and other gear to disseminate (information on) the good deeds of the party.
“The party is not made up of billionaires. The money is from members, so it’s better (if we use it to concentrate) on 80 seats,” he added.
Muhammad Sanusi said the party’s GE15 candidates would be the cream of the crop.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, in his winding-up speech, called on party members to help realise the party’s goal of winning 40 parliamentary seats.
“If we want to be part of the country’s ruling coalition, we must instil the winning mindset among party members and be wary of the subtle tactics of the enemy to split the unity of the ummah (community).
“Winning 40 seats will be a good gauge of the party’s strength.
“Party members must abide by the party’s decision, as every proposal is carefully thought out, deliberated, discussed and decided by the party leadership for the progress of the party and its members,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim said members should always see the bigger picture, where the party would sacrifice certain seats to pave the way for bigger wins elsewhere.
“Our biggest challenge will be the Undi18 voters and fence sitters.
“We must win them over to secure a much-needed victory in GE15.
“To non-Muslims, do not fear if PAS rules. It will be a just government, free of corruption, power abuse and persecution,” he said.
