Efforts being made to ease Causeway, Second Link traffic congestion, says Johor MB

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Both the Malaysian and Singaporean governments are working closely to address the traffic congestion at Johor’s two entry points, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (pic).

The Johor Mentri Besar said that the traffic congestion at the Causeway and Second Link, even on weekdays, were happening again after the countries reopened the border on April 1.

“I obviously understand the need to minimise this issue and from my experience, there are massive jams even from 10am to noon on weekdays, on both sides of the entry points.

“I hope the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project will be built as soon as possible according to plan.

“We are also exploring the possibility of a ferry terminal to link Puteri Harbour here and Tuas in Singapore, though it is nothing to shout about yet (at this stage),” he said in his speech after launching the 1975 Avenue and Hotel project here on Tuesday (Aug 30).

With a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour each way, the RTS Link could provide easy and comfortable transit between Johor Baru and Singapore in just five minutes.

The link project was scheduled to begin operating by Jan 1, 2027.

Touching on the event, Onn Hafiz said the avenue and hotel development by Tiong Nam Group would incorporate two retired Boeing 747 aircraft located right above a man-made beach.

“I understand that there will also be a dedicated block for halal food and beverages at the development, which will bode well with Muslim guests staying at the hotel.

“Once completed, the project will be one-of-its-kind in the country’s southern region,” he added.
