Perak MB: New policy needed for housing issues of Felda’s second-generation settlers

IPOH: A meeting will be held to discuss the problems in Felda New Generation Housing (PGBF) in Perak, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said among the problems faced involves the Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act (Akta Tanah Berkelompok).

“Under the Act, there is only one house allocated for each lot. That is why they are not allowed to

even though some lots have the space for the second generation to build their house,” said Saarani.

“We will discuss with the state Land and Mineral Department (PTG) to solve the matter,” he added after attending the Ramah Mesra programme with Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers at Laman Seri Ridzuan here Sunday (Aug 28).

Saarani said apart from building the homes in Felda, the state has built a housing area in the Batang Padang district exclusively for the second generation of Felda settlers.

“I was informed that the houses have already been completed and are currently awaiting Tenaga Berhad (TNB) to install electricity,” he added.

Saarani said that TNB had told him that they are currently awaiting the raw material to complete the installation, and that the delay is due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

“What we need right now is a new policy that will allow Felda’s second-generation settlers to build their houses on the same lot as their parents,” he said, adding that there are 17 Felda areas in Perak.

In March, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government will be introducing a new concept to help Felda’s second-generation settlers to own their own house.

In July, Ismail Sabri announced an allocation of almost RM65mil for the implementation of five initiatives to help Felda settlers and its new generation in various aspects including housing.
