Lorry driver extricated from wreck after rear-ending crane

TANGKAK: A male lorry driver was injured in an accident involving a lorry and a crane at KM161.4 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) south-bound.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operation centre said it received an emergency call on the incident at 7.53am Thursday (Aug 25).

Tangkak fire station chief Rafiah Aziz said 15 firemen from the Tangkak and Bukit Gambir stations were deployed to the scene.

“The 24-year-old driver of a 10-tonne lorry had rear-ended the crane,’’ she said in a statement.

Rafiah said firemen had to use a telescopic ram bar to rescue the driver who was trapped in the lorry.

She added that the 32-year-old male crane driver escaped unhurt.

She said two Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles and an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle were used in the operation.

Rafiah said the 24-year-old lorry driver was handed over to the paramedic team from the Health Ministry for further action.

The operation, led by senior officer II K. Kumar, ended at around 8.28am.
