Langkawi hospital to be upgraded, says Kedah MB

ALOR SETAR: Hospital Sultanah Maliha (HSM) in Langkawi will be upgraded to improve its facilities and services for residents and tourists.

Kedah Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, said the upgrading work was expected to cost RM600mil.

“Currently, patients in critical condition will be transferred to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) here, but there is a transportation problem that requires hiring a boat or taking a ferry to get to the mainland.

“So, with the upgrading of HSM, its current shortcomings will be addressed, including by increasing the number of beds, providing better facilities, and using new technology,” he told reporters.

Earlier, Muhammad Sanusi, chairman of the board of directors of Kedah Medical Centre (KMC), officiated the opening ceremony for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Digital Mammography machines at the private hospital.

Bernama reported that Muhammad Sanusi said the Kedah government welcomed building more medical specialist hospitals in the state to enable the people to receive the best treatment.

“There have been many proposals to build medical specialist hospitals in Kedah, and we welcome this. But I believe it is rather difficult as the cost will be high.

“Hopefully, building more government and private hospitals in the state will benefit the people,” he added.
