KOTA KINABALU: A number of programmes have been introduced to help people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, says Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) said one of the programmes was the Malaysian Family Assistance (BKM), aimed to lighten the burden of lower-income families.
“The BKM is one of the latest assistance programmes.
“This shows that the government never stops giving aid to those in need,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Ongkili said this during a ceremony to present aid to 1,329 people who do not have their own bank accounts.
The event was held in the northern Kota Marudu district on Saturday.
Ongkili stressed that both the federal authorities and the state government led by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) were always looking after the welfare of the people in the state.
“The last two years have been very challenging as everyone was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The government is very concerned with the rakyat’s well-being, and as such, numerous assistance programmes have been introduced to lighten the people’s burden, in line with the Malaysian Family Concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,” he said.
Ongkili, who is also Kota Marudu MP, called on the people in the constituency to continue supporting both the federal and state governments.
He asked them to continue supporting him and the three state assemblymen of Kota Marudu, comprising Datuk Julita Majungki (Matunggong), Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (Bandau) and Hendrus Anding (Tandek).
He added that their support was to ensure that assistance for the constituents would continue to be provided.
