KOTA KINABALU: The government has introduced a host of programmes to help the people who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, says Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) said one of those programmes was the Malaysian Family Assistance (BKM).
He said the programme was part of the government's efforts to lighten the burden of lower-income families.
"The BKM is one of the latest assistance programmes which reflects that the government never stops giving aid to those in need,” he said in a statement.
“Indeed, the government is concerned and cares for the wellbeing of the people," added Ongkili.
Ongkili said this at a ceremony on the presentation of aid to 1,329 people in the Kota Marudu district on Saturday (Aug 20) who do not own bank accounts.
The Kota Marudu MP stressed that both the federal and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state governments listen to the people.
He added that the last two years have been very challenging as everyone was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The government is very concerned about the rakyat's wellbeing, and as such various forms of aid were introduced to lighten the people's plight in line with the Malaysian Family Concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,” he said.
Towards this end, Ongkili called on the people in Kota Marudu to continue supporting the federal and GRS governments through their Members of Parliament and three state assemblymen - Datuk Julita Majungki (Matunggong), Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (Bandau) and Hendrus Anding (Tandek).
This was to enable continuous assistance to be channelled to those in need, he added.
