House fire in Sandakan kills three


KOTA KINABALU: A full investigation is underway following a fire that destroyed a double-storey terrace house and left three people dead.

Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said police have identified the victims as Chin Seong Vui, 54, his wife Lim Seong Chin, 52, and 84-year-old Lee Kiu Moi, who is the mother of Seong Vui.

“Initial investigations showed that all three victims were living in the house,” he said in a state- ment.

Firemen found the three charred bodies in the living room of the house at Taman Rajawali after the fire was put out at about 11pm on Friday.

ACP Abdul Fuad said their remains have been sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for a post-mortem.

For now, he said police have classified the case as sudden death.

ACP Abdul Fuad also said investigations into the cause of the fire were ongoing.

A state Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a distress call in- forming them about the fire at 10.35pm.

The fire was believed to have started at about 10.10pm.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
