Cops nabbed human traffickers, undocumented migrants after high-speed car chase

PETALING JAYA: Two human traffickers and nine foreigners who had been smuggled into the country were caught after a car chase that started near the Pencala toll plaza.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said that police spotted the suspects in a car at 11.20am on Saturday (Aug 20).

"The patrol team was tracing down an expired motor license and had instructed the driver to stop. However, the driver sped off which led to a chase until Jalan SS2/67.

"The suspect's vehicle was stopped after it had hit two other vehicles belonging to members of the public. The driver and passengers tried to escape but all were caught by the police," he said.

Checks on the vehicle showed that nine foreigners aged 22 to 43 had entered the country illegally.

All were without identification documents and were brought in to be sent to factories within the Damansara area to work.

The nine foreigners were unable to converse in English or Malay, he added.

The local suspects, aged 36 and 31 years old have been arrested under the Sosma Act whereas the foreigners were detained under the Immigration Act.
