TWO Tamil schools in Jasin, Melaka, are facing closure due to low enrolment, Malaysia Nanban reported.

State MIC chief and Gadek assemblyman VP Shanmugam made the statement during Melaka MIC Youth’s 28th annual general meeting.

The two schools are reported to have fewer than 30 pupils and are said to be facing closure due to an apparent decision by the Education Ministry.

The schools need to be either closed or combined with other schools according to the ministry’s policy, Shanmugam said.

He appealed to the ministry to put off the decision to enable MIC and community leaders to find a solution.

In his speech, Shanmugam said the Indian community should know the reality facing Tamil schools.

He said with falling enrolment and the community turning their backs on Tamil schools, the schools are facing a bleak future.

> Tamil Nadu police have set up a special task force to hunt for a bank employee who stole 32kg of gold from the bank vault, the daily also reported.

The robbery, which took place in broad daylight, shocked the state authorities and the public. The incident happened at the Federal Bank located in Razaak Garden.
