A TOTAL of 50 high-risk locations for drowning incidents throughout the country have been equipped with the Life Saving Appliances (LiSA), Berita Harian reported.

The paper quoted Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid as saying that his team had identified the areas where there had been incidents of drowning that resulted in more than five deaths within three years.

“With LiSA, the public now have access to the safety kit during emergencies, especially when someone is having difficulty while swimming.

“All we have to do is place LiSA at these locations and the device would automatically turn the siren on when there is an emergency. It will send a signal through GPS to the nearest fire station,” he said at an event in Penampang, Sabah.

> Residents near Masjid Al-Amin at Sungai Layar, Sungai Petani, Kedah, are in need of more space for a cemetery as the existing one has only 50 spots left, Kosmo! reported.

Mosque committee chairman Ibrahim Ahmad said nearly all space in the cemetery plot, which has been in existence for 23 years, had been used up.

He added that committee members were working hard to collect donations to buy three new lots to expand the cemetery.

“We have purchased one lot and have placed a deposit for the second lot. We are now negotiating to buy the third lot.

“We need about RM2.5mil to purchase all three lots, as well as to maintain the land,” Ibrahim said.

> Actress Wan Sharmila says she is very comfortable with the family of comedian and actor Shuib, Harian Metro reported.

However, both of them insist that they are merely friends within the entertainment industry.

“Shuib has also released a statement where he talked about our relationship and that we are only friends.

“I also know his family and his children really well as we have worked together before,” she said.

The actress’ name was the talk of the town after Shuib’s mother Salamiah Jalani uploaded a few photos of her on Instagram.

The photos were taken during a tahlil ceremony for the late singer Siti Sarah Raissuddin, who was Shuib’s wife.

Salamiah seemed to look happy and comfortable with Wan Sharmila, especially with Shuib’s children.

Wan Sharmila said she felt more at peace when meeting with older people.

“Shuib’s mother seems comfortable with me and is someone who is always positive. I’m happy to have found another friend,” she added.
