THE netball team from SJK (T) Segambut has qualified for the nationals after finishing third in the state-level tournament, Malaysia Nanban reported.
With their success, the team, which represented the Sentul district in the competition for Kuala Lumpur schools on Aug 11, became the first Tamil school to be placed in the top three.
To cap their achievement, team member Avanitha Maniarasu was also crowned best attacking player during the tournament.
The girls will now go on to take part in the national-level competition to be hosted by the Malaysia Schools Sports Council in September.
> Makkal Osai reported that a lorry driver was killed after being thrown out of his vehicle in a crash that ended in a ravine in Gerik, Perak. The body of the victim, identified as V. Shanmuganathan, 48, was found near the lorry, which had landed at the bottom of the ravine.
Pengkalan Hulu Fire and Rescue Department chief Zahirul Anwar Abdul Azam said his officers found the lorry about 50m down from the road after getting a call at around 9.50am on Sunday.
The body of Shanmuganathan, who was confirmed killed at the scene, was later retrieved by rescue personnel.
