KUALA NERUS: A total of 1,270 baby clownfish (ikan inggu) have been released into the waters of Pulau Bidong near here in conjunction with the Terengganu Dive Month 2022 (TDM 2022).
State Tourism director Fadli Yusof Zakaria said the event also made it into the Malaysia Book of Records.
Jointly organised by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), TDM 2022 – themed Dive For Freedom – is aimed at promoting the uniqueness of the islands in this state.
“It is an annual programme in the state’s tourism calendar and anxiously awaited by scuba divers in the country,” said Fadli Yusof.
Apart from Pulau Bidong, he said the programme would also take place in Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Tenggol and Pulau Redang.
“A total of 1,000 scuba divers from around the country are expected to taker part,” he told Bernama after launching the programme yesterday.
Also present were UMT vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mazlan Ghaffar and Malaysia Book of Records office manager Lee Pooi Ling.
