JOHOR BARU: The Johor Human Resources Steering Committee is expected to come up with the Johor Human Resources Strategic Action Plan in September that will reduce the number of job mismatches in the state.
Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurs' Development, Cooperatives, and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said that the committee was first introduced back in April this year and was in the final phase of coming up with the plan.
“The committee comprises 42 government agencies and learning institutions that are offering upskilling and reskilling programmes to our locals.
“They were introduced as a means to tackle the issues of mismatched jobs in the market; there were issues of too many upskilling and reskilling programmes that have not been managed properly,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating the new government initiative through the Social Security Organisation (Socso) programme at Menara Perkeso, here on Monday (Aug 15).
Currently, there is no data on how many skills programmes are offered, the types of skills programmes offered, or the number of those who have taken the programme, he said.
“We don’t even have data on the number of available jobs related to the skills of those who are taking the upskilling and reskilling programme.
“We do not want to focus on one sector such as oil and gas. Doing so will only lead to an oversupply, which also means unemployment, whereas there are still other sectors that need human capital,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Johor Socso director Tong Sing Chuan said there were 51,801 job vacancies offered on the MYFutureJobs portal as of July this year.
“A total of 9,692 positions have been filled with 32,397 people still actively searching for jobs in the same period,” he said, adding that this involved 3,602 employees.
The unemployment rates have also improved from 5.6% in 2020 to 4.1% as of this year, said Tong.
