KOTA TINGGI: A Singaporean man is missing after going on a hike at Gunung Panti Barat near Batu Ampat here.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said a search and rescue operation has been mounted to find the missing hiker, identified as 40-year-old Neo Thiam Ming.
“Police received information from the Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue Department about the missing person on Saturday (Aug 13) at around 7.10pm.
“The missing person contacted the 24-hour MERS 999 emergency line, which then connected the call to the Fire and Rescue Department. He said he lost his way while hiking,” Supt Hussin said here on Sunday (Aug 14).
He added that a search and rescue operation was launched immediately, consisting of the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and Kota Tinggi Forestry Department.
He said as of 2pm on Sunday, the team had yet to locate Neo and would continue with its efforts to find him.
He said those with information on the incident should contact the Kota Tinggi police at 07-883 7222 or lodge a report at the nearest police station.
Supt Hussin also advised those who wished to go hiking to report their activity to the nearest police station or the Forestry Department before starting their journey.
