Authorities raid store, seize subsidised oil and sugar

MELAKA: Some 460kg of subsidised cooking oil was seized during a raid at a store in Ayer Keroh here.

State Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs director Norena Jaafar announced that the 12.30pm operation on Tuesday was carried out following a tip-off.

Also confiscated were packets of sugar, weighing about one tonne, she added.

“The store has all the legitimate documents to sell the commodities.

“However, an in-depth check found that these items were being hoarded illegally,” she said yesterday.

Norena said the 60-year-old owner of the premises had failed to convince the enforcement team about why he had stocked the items, totalling RM7,000, without proper documentation.
