Preschooler kidnap text message under probe

KOTA KINABALU: Police are investigating a viral text message that said a man attempted to kidnap a preschooler in Sabah’s east coast Tawau district.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said there was no report lodged on the claim so far on the alleged incident on Monday.

He said police would still investigate the matter.

“We have yet to receive any reports from anyone. We are still gathering information,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The text message alleged that the kidnapper tried to lure the child using sweets and money.

It stated that this was noticed by a teacher and the security guard at the school, who shouted at the man.

The message stated that the man then let go of the child before speeding off in a white Proton Saga Aeroback car.
