PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,783 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (July 31), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,680,053 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 2,780 of Sunday's new Covid-19 cases were locally transmitted while there were three imported infections.
According to the ministry's GitHub data repository, this is the first time daily cases have dropped below 3,000 infections since July 24 when 2,720 cases were detected.
Recoveries outpaced new Covid-19 cases, with 4,482 individuals recovering from their infections on Sunday.
There were 45,306 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 43,753 individuals, or 96.6% of the active cases, observing home quarantine and 22 being treated at quarantine and treatment centres.
Some 3.3% of Sunday's active cases, or 1,477 Covid-19 patients, are being treated at hospitals, with 54 warded in intensive care units (ICU).
Of those in ICU, 22 are unventilated while 32 patients require ventilator support.
Malaysia's current overal ICU utilisation rate stands at 64.1%, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 14.5% of the utilisation rate on Sunday.
The GitHub data repository also reported that there were nine deaths due to Covid-19 on Sunday, including four classified as brought-in-dead.
This brings the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in the country to 35,969 since the pandemic began.
