Over RM100,000 worth of subsidised diesel seized in Johor


KULAI: Some 72,800 litres of subsidised diesel worth more than RM100,000 were seized by the police in an operation at Taman Lagenda Putra industrial area here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said during the raid at about 3pm on Friday (July 29), eight individuals believed to be involved in the incident were also arrested.

“We have arrested seven men and one woman who are believed to be involved in the illegal trade of the subsidised diesel. The suspects are all locals between the ages of 28 and 52.

“We have also seized items used along with RM174,720 worth of subsidised diesel during the raid,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (July 30).

Supt Tok added that none of the suspects had any prior criminal record.

“The suspects and items seized have been handed over to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry investigation officer for further actions.

“The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 and offenders could be sentenced under Section 22(1) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM1mil or three years’ jail or both, upon conviction,” he said.

He also urged the public to channel any information they have on criminal activities to the Kulai police by visiting its headquarters or calling its operation centre at 07-663 7222.
