Tawau Sessions Court judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud fined Mahahadil Hamsali RM100,000 on Friday (July 29) after he pleaded guilty to having in his possession 100 litres of petrol without the necessary licence or controlled goods permit at a petrol station in Semporna district.
Mahahadil was also jailed for six months.
The court also fined Muslimin Mohammad RM75,000 and ordered him to serve three months in jail after he pleaded guilty to illegally having 75 litres of petrol at a station in Semporna.
Awang Kerisnada also ordered the 175 litres of petrol and two wheelbarrows seized from the men to be handed over to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry's Semporna office for disposal.
In a statement, the ministry's Sabah director Georgie Abas reminded the public that anyone involved in trade or business and having more than 20 litres of petrol must write in officially to the ministry’s supply officer to obtain a special permit for the controlled goods.
