IPOH: A total of 48 respiratory tract infection (RTI) clusters have been reported in Perak, says state health committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin.
He said as of Thursday (July 21), the highest number of cases was reported at secondary schools in the state.
“About 83.3% of the total cases or 40 clusters were from secondary schools.
“This is followed by primary schools, preschools, religious schools, and industrial training centres (in that order).
"Four other clusters were reported in other locations," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 24).

On Saturday (July 23), Mohd Akmal said current health threats to children in the country were RTI and influenza-like illnesses (ILI).
Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin then announced on Tuesday (July 19) that the ministry is preparing to revive contingency plans for schools should Covid-19 and ILI infections increase.
Mohd Akmal added that of the 48 clusters, 44 had ended with four still active.

“There have been no deaths reported from RTI but the state Health Department reminds everyone to wear a face mask in closed premises, and wash their hands with soap regularly or use hand sanitiser.
“The department will continue to monitor the situation and RTI trend in Perak,” he said, adding that those with symptoms should seek medical help immediately.
