SEREMBAN: A total of 800 affordable houses will be built in Mantin near here.

Locals, especially those from the lower income community, have every reason to rejoice over the 24.6ha project in this former mining town that has experienced rapid development in recent years.

A joint venture between NS Corporation and Multiplex Development, construction is scheduled to start at the end of this year and expected to be completed by 2026.

State investment, industrialisation, entrepreneurship, education and human capital committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek said the project was another of the state government’s initiatives to allow more people to own homes.

“Such projects are necessary as many people, including the younger generation, are finding it difficult to buy their first property due to escalating prices, among other reasons.

“The state government will do its best to ensure that the people, especially those from the B40 group, have their own homes so they are not left out of mainstream development,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony yesterday.

The houses will be built in three seizes and priced between RM80,000 and RM360,000.

Mohamad Rafie said locals would get the priority to purchase the cheapest range, measuring at 6x18m.

“Preference will surely be for those living in the Nilai constituency.

“If there are extra units, we will offer them to those from surrounding areas,” he said, adding that interested buyers could register with the state government’s housing unit.

Mohamad Rafie said since June 2018, the state government had approved the construction of 24,430 affordable homes and of these, 7,518 cost RM80,000 and below.

He said another 12,500 affordable units would be constructed in Smart County in the Malaysian Vision Valley 2.0 area in the near future.
