Sabah CM: 26 operations by Mosar team for first half of 2022

KOTA KINABALU: The Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) team has conducted 26 rescue operations at Mount Kinabalu in the first half of this year.

Commending the initiative by the Fire and Rescue Department, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic) said the formation of the team following the 2015 earthquake that hit the mountain at Kundasang, was an apt move to increase preparedness in the face of natural disasters.

The team was also another proof that the duties of the department go beyond handling fires and accidents, he said.

"The rescue personnel in today's world are faced with high risk and dangerous situations.

"The Mosar team for example are firemen with specific and competent skills.

"Based at the Ranau Fire and Rescue fire station, they focused on rescue missions at Mount Kinabalu," he said during a Fire and Rescue Department event to mark the completion of training for a new batch of firemen on Thursday (July 14).

Hajiji also reminded all newly trained personnel to show the same commitment when they were on the field.

"I would like the new batch of 148 personnel to fully utilise the knowledge learned from the training and to be more effective when they go on duty," he added.

Earlier, Hajiji was awarded Honorary Fire and Rescue Deputy Senior Commissioner by Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.
