KOTA KINABALU: Another child has gone missing after an excursion along a river in Sabah.
A search and rescue operation has been set up to locate an eight-year-old boy whose name has not been confirmed yet.
The child went missing at a river in Kampung Batu Putih in Sabah’s east coast Kinabatangan district.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said the boy had gone for a swim before a distress call was made at 10.05am on Tuesday.
“We have sent a rescue team to look for the missing child,” he said, urging those who had last seen the boy to contact the authorities.
This is the fourth child who has gone missing over the weekend.
The remains of three-year-old Mohd Qyis Azhar Abdul Halim, who was reported missing on Saturday, were found the following morning.
He is believed to have drowned.
Villagers found his body 500m from his house in Kampung Kuridak Gerama in the south-western Beaufort district at 10.20am.
Also on Sunday, a seven-year-old disabled boy who went missing in Tawau was discovered safe after being presumed drowned in a river near his home.
Muhammad Fakhri Zhafrah Afandi Muhammad Maulidin was found 100 metres from his house in Kampung Jawa Lanut by villagers at 7.16pm, some seven hours after he was first reported missing.
However, a search and rescue operation is still going on for Jude Angel Jeremy after she went missing from her Kampung Saliwangan Baru home in Beaufort on Saturday.
Rescuers have expanded the search area for the missing 18-month-old girl who initially could not be located in her home Saturday morning after the door of her house was found open.
