KUALA LUMPUR: A thousand asnaf (tithe recipients) benefited from the slaughter of a gigantic 1.2-tonne bull, affectionately known as Gemuk.
According to Bernama, the bull was crowned the King of Sado 2022 during this year’s East Coast Sado Cattle Gathering held earlier this month.
Gemuk was donated by an individual through Ikhlas Sdn Bhd – a digital Islamic lifestyle platform – to the Ikhlasiah Mosque in Pantai Dalam, near here, yesterday.
Ikhlas Sdn Bhd’s chief executive officer Ikhlas Kamarudin said that the Charolais breed bull was worth more than RM30,000 on the market and was raised by a farmer from Bera, Pahang, named Muhammad Bakri Bukhari.
“When Gemuk was brought home by Muhammad Bakri, he weighed only 600kg, but four years later he weighed a whopping 1.2 tonnes.
“The reason why we chose Gemuk for the sacrificial rites this year is because it was the best bull.
“The act of sacrifice is not just about the act of giving, it is also about giving our best,” he said after the sacrificial rites at the mosque.
Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) members worked with the Khalid bin Al-Walid Mosque’s management to hold sacrificial rites and an aqiqah programme at the mosque compound as part of the Aidiladha celebration.MAF Religious Corps deputy director (Management) Brig-Gen Mohd Hamzah Adam said that 26 cattle and four goats were sacrificed yesterday.
“Previously, during the movement control order last year, the sacrificial rites were only performed at abattoirs involving 18 cattle,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the symbolic opening ceremony by the MAF headquarters chief of staff Datuk Mohd Zakaria Yadi, who handed over a slaughter knife to Mohd Hamzah.
Before the sacrifices and aqiqah, members of the MAF performed the Aidiladha prayers at the mosque.
