KAJANG: An excessive load of lotus leaves have caused a boat to capsize, drowning a father and his son at a pond in Sungai Chua here.

During the 2pm incident on Saturday, Mohd Adnan Johdi, 50 and his sons – Hakimi, 15, and Mohamad Mustaqkim, 17 – had taken a boat out to clear the lotus leaves at the reservoir pond in Taman Cahaya.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the trio had been clearing lotus leaves since morning.

“The overloaded boat was difficult to control and it overturned,” he said in a statement on Saturday night.

Mohd Adnan Johdi and Hakimi drowned in the incident. The father’s body was found about 5km from where the boat sank at 5.12pm on the same day while Hakimi’s body was discovered about 10km away some two hours later.
