Barisan should form govt with its own mandate after GE15, says Sabah MCA

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional should form the government through its own mandate in the coming general election, says Sabah MCA.

State party chief Lu Yen Tung said following the 14th General Election (GE14), Barisan suffered a downfall but in 2020, it came back into government through the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

He said at the end of the day, however, Barisan should win its own mandate to form the government.

He said this during his speech at the Barisan Nasional convention at the ITCC Hall in Penampang near here on Saturday (July 2).

Lu said this was for the people and supporters who have stuck with Barisan through thick and thin, and did not leave when the government changed.

“In fact, in the spirit of solidarity and for the sake of political stability, we supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia as the prime minister in 2020 but we were instead called a backdoor government,” he said.

Lu said this did not make any sense at all when Bersatu had been the main culprit to bring Barisan down in GE14.

Speaking further, he said there was no place for extreme politics that harped on sensitive issues including racial sentiments.

As a multi-racial coalition, the spirit of togetherness, tolerance and mutual understanding had always been the focus of Barisan's struggle, he said.

Meanwhile, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) deputy president Datuk Arthur Kurup said that Sabahans should rally behind Barisan as they might miss the boat with the former ruling coalition surging back in Peninsular Malaysia.

“We must not miss the boat. We do not want Sabah to be left behind,” he said.
