Lawyer charged in RM1.5mil CBT case


SHAH ALAM: A lawyer has been charged at the Sessions Court here with criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM1.52mil.

Mohd Zawahid Ya, 47, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Helina Sulaiman yesterday.

He was charged as a lawyer at the legal firm of Messrs Mohd Zawahid & Co.

As the person entrusted with the funds, he was accused of committing CBT at its office in Subang Bestari near here between May 9 and Aug 11, 2017, reported Bernama.

The charge, which falls under Section 409 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 20 years with whipping and a fine if found guilty.

Helina allowed Mohd Zawahid bail of RM50,000 with one surety and also ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

She then set Aug 9 for mention. Mohd Zawahid later posted bail.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Uzair Abd Munir.

Lawyers Fahmi Abd Moin, Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff and Ilyani Khuzairi represented Mohd Zawahid.
