Covid-19: Daily cases increase to 163 in Sabah, urban areas most affected

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Covid-19 cases continue to increase with many of the new cases focused in densely populated areas.

Minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in the state, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said out of Wednesday’s (June 29) 163 new cases, Kota Kinabalu and Penampang district record 79 and 39 infections, respectively.

"About 62% of the new cases in Kota Kinabalu and 59% in Penampang are sporadic. These patients transmit the virus to their close contacts," he said.

He said for example, a total of 26 out of the 79 new cases in Kota Kinabalu are close contacts while 16 out of the 39 cases in Penampang are close contacts.

"At this rate, we foresee the percentage of new cases through close contacts to increase," Masidi said.

All the new cases in Sabah on Wednesday were under Category 1 and Category 2, he said.

No new clusters were reported, he said while reminding the public to continue taking preventative measures to curb the spread of the virus.
