Student lands in court for sexual offences against a minor

MELAKA: A 19-year-old polytechnic student has found himself in the dock for leaving love bites on a 15-year-old girl, considered as sexual offences against a minor on account of her age.

The student was slapped with two charges at the Sessions Court here on Tuesday (June 28), both framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

The student claimed trial to the charges after his plea was recorded before Sessions judge Maziah Jaory Mohd Tajudin.

On the first charge, the student is alleged to have committed a sexual offence against the teenager at a hotel in Melaka Tengah district at 10.30pm on March 11.

For the second charge, he is accused of repeating the offence by leaving love bites on the victim's chest and neck at another hotel in the same district at 8.30pm on March 13.

The court granted bail of RM9,000 for both offences and fixed July 29 for next mention.
