Drug ring smashed, 17kg ganja seized

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized over 17kg of ganja after crippling a drug syndicate led by a local kingpin.

City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said police arrested two men and a woman following the Ops Igor operations.

“We conducted raids at condominium units in Kuala Lumpur and Kajang last Friday, which led to the arrest of the three, aged between 24 and 31. Investigations showed that the drug kingpin was a local,” he said in a statement.

Comm Azmi said police seized 17.3kg of ganja worth at least RM43,200. The drugs seized could have catered to at least 34,000 drug users.

“The suspects have been remanded for five days to assist in investigations,” he said, adding that police have rounded up 229 suspects for various drug offences following a major drug crackdown in the city.

“We conducted Ops Tapis operations between June 21 and 23,” he added.
