KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic) will organise a briefing for Umno Youth on the implementation of the National 5G Project by Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) this Friday (July 1).
Annuar said he had asked the Finance Ministry (MOF), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and DNB to provide a briefing on the project implementation at 10am at Angkasapuri.
“As this explanation is crucial to enable the young people and party leaders to get the latest explanations and information, I will also extend this invitation to several leaders from the Wanita Umno and Puteri movements.
“I hope, via this briefing session, all questions raised can be explained in detail by the agencies involved,” he said in a statement Sunday (June 26).
The statement was issued following a memorandum submitted by Umno Youth on June 21 to Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin regarding the implementation of 5G by DNB.
Umno Youth executive committee chairman Fairuz Jamaludin handed over the memorandum which, among others, called for a thorough investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on matters relating to the implementation of the 5G project.
Annuar said he had extended a copy of the memorandum to the MOF as most of the matters raised in the memorandum were not under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry's jurisdiction.
Commenting further, Annuar said that based on a check conducted on the matters raised in the memorandum, it was found that inaccurate and out-of-date information had reached Umno Youth.
“I would like to thank Umno Youth for conveying their views and I think, as young leaders, they have the right to get more in-depth, accurate and up-to-date information on the implementation of 5G directly from the horse's mouth or from the parties involved directly in 5G implementation,” he said.
DNB, which is wholly owned by MOF Inc, has been mandated by the government to be the single neutral party to undertake the deployment of 5G infrastructure and network nationwide. - Bernama
