Hammer and eggs, fire extinguisher and meat cleaver: Parking dispute in PJ gets ugly


PETALING JAYA: Police here have arrested the 31-year-old man who was allegedly involved in a scuffle over a parking lot.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said police arrested a 31-year-old man in front of a shop along Jalan SS21/1A, Damansara Utama.

He said police also seized a hammer, a meat cleaver and a fire extinguisher.

"The suspect has been remanded to help with further investigations. The case has been classified as criminal intimidation and causing hurt," he said.

On the incident, ACP Mohamad Fakhrudidin said that the initial incident occurred at around 1.10pm on Saturday (June 25).

"We received a report from a 26-year-old man who claimed that an argument broke out between two men and a woman in front of a ship along Jalan 21/1A, Damansara Utama. The investigation showed the incident was sparked due to a parking lot dispute,” said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin.

He said in a statement on Sunday (June 26) that the incident occurred when the complainant - a businessman - parked his car in front of his shop.

"Suddenly, an elderly man started yelling at the complainant to come out of his car and an argument broke out,” said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin.

He said that the elderly man's wife then approached the two and began throwing eggs at the complainant and his friend and added that their son then came and started scolding the complainant and his friends while holding a hammer.

He said the man also threatened to damage the complainant's car.

"A scuffle then broke out in the five-foot-way and the suspect was holding a fire extinguisher and a meat cleaver. The complainant and his friend suffered minor injuries to their hands," he said.
