KUALA LUMPUR: Umno should focus on unity instead of sacking members of its supreme council, says Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (pic).
He said such decisions did not bode well for Umno ahead of the 15th General Election.
"If we go into the election disunited, we will suffer as a party," said the Federal Territories Minister after an event at a mall in Wangsa Maju on Saturday (June 25).
Shahidan added that a civilisation that lacked unity would not survive for long.
"If we look at history, it was the civilisations whose people were united that could last a long time," he said.
Shahidan, who is also Arau MP, was asked to comment on a recent statement by Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who said that more members would be dropped from the Umno supreme council.
The Ketereh Umno chief said in a Facebook post on Friday (June 24) that "sacking after sacking is planned for those branded as political enemies", a veiled reference that many believed was directed at the party president.
This comes after Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was dropped from the supreme council.
