Teenager killed after collision with cement lorry in Papar

KOTA KINABALU: A 17-year-old boy was killed after he was flung out from his car that collided head-on into a cement mixer lorry in Sabah’s southwestern Papar district on Saturday (June 25).

The incident occurred at the KM23 of the Jalan Papar Lama - Kota Kinabalu, which is part of the Pan Borneo Highway, at 12.45pm.

Papar OCPD Deputy Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the teenager was driving a Perodua Viva from Papar to Kota Kinabalu when the mishap took place.

He added that the cement mixer lorry was parked on the roadside.

The lorry driver, he said, saw the Perodua Viva swerved after losing control and spinning several times before crashing into his idle lorry.

As a result of the collision, he said, the teenager smashed through the front windscreen and ended up face down on the road.

Kamaruddin said paramedics who reported at the scene confirmed the victim died on the spot.

"We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said, adding the victim’s body has been sent to the Papar district hospital for a postmortem.
