More wardens for boarding schools soon, says Radzi

PETALING JAYA: There will be an increase in the number of wardens placed in boarding schools, says Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.

The Education Minister said the ministry will add on a total of 3,813 wardens in the 1,874 boarding schools under the ministry in the country.

“This is an increase of 63% from 6,055 wardens to 9,868.

“With this increase, there will be rotations (in shifts) in all boarding schools.

“Their allowance will also be increased by 25%, making the new allowance rate for head wardens RM350 a month, while the new rate for wardens is RM300 a month,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page on Friday (June 24).

Both these moves, he said, will start from Aug 1.

The last time wardens’ allowance rates were reviewed, he said, was in 1997.

The move to increase the number of wardens, as well as their allowances, will involve approximately RM19mil a year, Radzi added.
