Former SMG librarian passes away

PETALING JAYA: Former senior library clerical assistant of Star Media Group (SMG) R. Chandrasekaran (pic) has passed away. He was 64.

Kiran Ganesh, 38, said his father, who was suffering from diabetes and kidney failure, became unconscious while undergoing dialysis treatment at the Assunta Hospital here and could not be revived.

“He was admitted to the hospital to remove fluid in his lungs on Wednesday,” he said yesterday.

Chandrasekaran retired from The Star in Aug 2012 after working for 36 years.

He was the The Star branch chairman for National Union of Newspaper Workers and later became its general secretary.

Former SMG senior human resources and administration manager SM Rajah said Chandrasekaran always had the workers’ welfare at heart.

“He was always willing to take the middle path in asking for salary reviews or better benefits for workers and did not compromise on any misconduct of union members.

“I will miss him as we worked together for 30 years. Only last week, we exchanged Father’s Day greetings,” said Rajah.

The funeral will be held at Nirvana Memorial Park in Shah Alam at 1pm today.
