AN electrical engineer left his job to become a modern farmer and is generating over RM6,500 in income monthly.
Aliff Haiqal Ibrahim, 32, used a fertigation system to plant vegetables at his hometown in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
He returned to Kota Tinggi after working for three years as an engineer to care for his parents, reports Kosmo!.
“Before I quit my job, I had worked on the farm using a technique I learned from farming courses.
“After finishing the system, I submitted my resignation letter and with RM15,000 capital I now have crops such as okra, bitter melon, winged beans as well as chillies,” he said, adding that farming has given him more flexibility and it allows him to spend time with his family.
Fertigation is a system of injecting fertilisers, and other water soluble products needed for plants into an irrigation system.
Aliff Haiqal said that the system that was used could accommodate 2,500 polybags.
“I’m working on four plots of crops. All of it has to be planned carefully for a period of one year as there would be times when flooding happens.
“That is also why I used the elevated farming method so the risk of getting affected by floods can be reduced,” he said.

Sudirman Fan Club President Ramlan Md Isa uploaded photos of the abandoned late singer’s residence on Facebook and it went viral, reported Berita Harian.
Ramlan said, in 2018, the club had sent a letter to Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who was then the deputy prime minister, proposing to create a Sudirman memorial gallery.
“We were informed that the letter was then extended to the National Archives of Malaysia. We received feedback from the parties involved that our proposal was accepted.
“However we have not seen any effort made by the government. This year, we sent a letter to the Political Secretary to the Prime Minister as he is from Pahang.
“However, so far, no feedback has been received,” he said.
Located in Kampung Tok Embun, Mentakab in Pahang, the house that Sudirman used to live in is now overgrown with bushes and surrounded by large trees.
