Man arrested for drug offence dies in police lock-up


SHAH ALAM: A man who was arrested for a drug-related offence has died after an attempted suicide, says the police.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Iqbal Ibrahim said the man was arrested on April 20 for a drug-related offence.

“He had tried to kill himself at the lock-up on June 15 but was rescued and sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for treatment.

“However, medical officers confirmed his death at 5.40pm on June 20,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 22).

ACP Iqbal said the cause of death has yet to be determined.

He added that investigations into the death were being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody and Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).
