Five arrested over theft of two Mitsubishi cars


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested four men and a woman in connection with the theft of two Mitsubishi cars.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said police were alerted after a 54-year-old van driver found two of his Mitsubishi cars which he parked along Jalan Bandar Baru Ampang went missing at around 8am on June 18.

"The next day, a team from Ampang Jaya CID arrested a 42-year-old man at around 1pm.

"His arrest led us to a scrapyard in Kuala Lumpur where we seized a lorry and the two Mitsubishi cars," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 22).

He said police then arrested three more men and a woman aged between 20 and 40 following raids at Jinjang, Wangsa Maju and Ampang.

"Checks revealed two of the male suspects have records for drug offences while the woman also had a drug offences record.

"The suspects go around looking for old cars which they would tow in order to sell to the scrapyard," he said, adding that the suspects have been remanded to assist further investigations.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said the case had been classified as vehicle theft.
