Two cleaners killed in freak mishap at JDT stadium


JOHOR BARU: Two men died in a freak accident while cleaning the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football stadium here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said police were notified about the incident at around 12.30pm on Monday (June 13).

“It occurred while the victims, aged 34 and 35, were working at the stadium. Both died at the scene.

“We understand that the weather was fine and it was not raining at the time.

“We have classified the case as a sudden death report and investigations are still ongoing,” he said, adding that the bodies of the victims have been sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for post-mortem.

The football club also issued a statement on social media expressing regret over the fatal incident.

“The entire JDT family expresses our deepest condolences to the families of the two staff of the professional cleaning services company.

“JDT is waiting for a full report of the incident from the authorities and the company we have contracted to maintain the stadium,” the statement read.
