KUALA LUMPUR: Police have busted a gang of thieves who mainly targeted Proton cars and used a modified hexagonal (allen) key to start the engines.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the Remy Sentosa four-member gang had been active in the Klang Valley, particularly in Sentul.

He said police launched Ops Lejang and conducted several raids in Selangor and Perak between June 4 and 8.

“We arrested four men as well as two women who we believe are the suspects' girlfriends.

“Following the arrest, we located eight cars that were reported stolen,” he told a press conference here on Monday (June 14).

ACP Beh said the stolen cars were sold for between RM2,000 and RM5,000 each and added that 13 cases had been solved following the arrests.

He said to steal a car, the gang would identify the target and send one of their members, a mechanic, to unlock the vehicle.

“They would then disable the alarm before starting the engine with a modified allen key,” he said.

ACP Beh said the suspects had been handed over to Ampang police for further action.
