Covid-19: Slight increase of new cases in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Covid-19 cases in Sabah showed a slight increase from 67 on Thursday (June 9) to 87 cases on Friday (June 10).

Minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in Sabah, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this was about a 30% increase and it could be due to the various celebrations and festivals throughout May such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Kaamatan.

He said 85 cases were under Category 1 and 2 while two others were under Category 4.

“The leniency in standard operating procedures for social gatherings could have been the contributing factors as well,” he said in a statement.

He added that with the school holiday still ongoing, the State Health Department expects the number of cases to only start stabilising at the end of June.

Masidi said 15 from 27 districts did not record any new cases over the past 24 hours.

“Kunak and Telupid districts have been categorised as green zones as they did not record any new cases for 14 days straight,” he said.
