Free Covid-19 tests for haj pilgrims

PUTRAJAYA: The Covid-19 RT-PCR tests for Malaysian haj pilgrims conducted at Health Ministry’s facilities will be free of charge, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).

“Pilgrims can contact the district health office or district Tabung Haji office for more information, including the list of facilities that provide the RT-PCR tests.

“Pilgrims who choose to undergo the screening test at private health facilities would have to bear the cost themselves,” he said in a statement.

The Saudi Arabia government has stipulated that all pilgrims are required to have a negative result of the Covid-19 swab test within 72 hours prior to their arrival in the Holy Land.

A total of 14,306 Malaysians will perform the haj this year and only those aged 65 and below, with no chronic illness, in possession of the Covid-19 vaccination certificate are eligible.

The first flight of Malaysian pilgrims is expected to depart tomorrow.
